He is also an adjunct professor of applied pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Rhode Island. Dr. Ette was a pioneer pharmacometric staff in the Office of Clinical Pharmacology and Biopharmaceutics at the Food and Drug Administration, where he developed the popular reference Guidance for Industry: Population Pharmacokinetics. From 1989 –2001, he was an FDA Consultant. In recognition of his contributions to clinical pharmacy and clinical pharmacology, Dr. Ette is the recipient of The American College of Clinical Pharmacy's Russell Miller Award. He is also the 2006 recipient of The American College of Clinical Pharmacy's Therapeutic Frontiers Lecture Award. Dr. Ette is chairman of the pharmacometrics panel of The Annals of Pharmacotherapy editorial board.

PAUL J. WILLIAMS, PharmD, is a Fellow of the American Colleges of Clinical Pharmacy and Clinical Pharmacology and Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacy Practice at the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Dr. Williams is the Vice President, Strategic Consulting, West Coast Operations in Anoixis Corp. and was formerly a partner at Trials by Design, LLC, a clinical consulting company, and member of the editorial board for The Annals of Pharmacotherapy. Don't wait another minute- Just get it!

Having already stated in my review of the book that Trading for a Living changed my life (and it most certainly did,) I am obviously a fan of Dr. Elder and as such will be steadfastly determined to keep this review from falling victim to hyperbole. Entries and Exits: Visits to Sixteen Trading Rooms is an important and essential addition to any trading library. A novice trader or one of intermediate experience will find almost endless wisdom to be mined here, but there are also many, many gems for seasoned pros. Imagine being able to sit for hours with 16 traders and pick through in detail their philosophy of trading, their most commons errors, the wisdom they have learned from years of markets--bull markets, bear markets, consolidations, doldrums--and being able to view their trading logs and actually re-trade with them their winners and losers. These traders are both full and part-timers. They trade a variety of markets from futures, stocks, currencies, options, ETFs, mutual funds, and commodities. As a trader of currencies and stocks I found every single chapter to be relevant to my trading irrespective of the specific market favored by the trader being interviewed. The traders also use a variety of charts, methods, and indicators.

I was thrilled to see the MACD favored highly as an indicator since it is my personal favorite. For each trader we learn how long they have traded, the approximate amount of money they typically trade, and a fascinating and detailed description of their trading rooms including how their computers are setup and the specific tools they use (i.e. software, books, websites.) My own trading was immediately affected by the chapter which highlights William Doane, a high-dollar trader of stocks who made a very convincing case for watching longer time-frames. The voice of experience does not stammer. I immediately saw the long bases with breakouts that he favors. Another extremely helpful aspect of this book is the emphasis on and the practical, usable treatment given to money management. Any trader must understand the principles of capital preservation or he won't be a trader very long. Dr. Elder is a very careful teacher of this approach and his "rules" have helped me turn potentially devastating losses into smaller losses from which I can easily recover.

I remember when Market Wizards came out how revolutionary it was to have a glimpse into the minds of professional traders. This book goes far beyond that point because each trader gives examples of individual trades from their own records; some of them winners and some of them losers. The reader is invited to view the chart and set up rationale of each of those trades and determine for himself if the trade will make or lose money before going onto the next page to find out how it actually turned out. In every case, Dr. Elder gives commentary and wisdom. The traders tell the specific charting software and trading platform they use. They explain in detail which indicators they favor and why. Imagine the cost and logistics of gathering this hard-won wisdom. Entries and Exits is one of the best trading books I have ever owned. The information is of such a practical and useful nature that it was incorporated into my own trading within minutes of reading it on the page. The book itself, with high quality paper and boards, is beautifully produced. I expect it to last a lifetime.

If you are a trader of financial markets get this book immediately. If you hope to trade for a living, then think of how valuable it would be to spend some hours with 16 traders who have been in the trenches already with Dr. Elder as your guide. Just get it. It is a steal at twice the price.

Text book examples for trading

Once again I believe Dr. Elder has written a book that could become a trading classic. I have read 60 books on trading and Dr. Elder is heads and shoulders above the other authors in his trading philosophy and his ability to communicate in a clear manner.

I would highly recommend purchasing this book along with his other books. This book really brings his principles of trading alive with real life examples of real traders making real winning and losing trades. Also the traders share some of their trading tactics. It is a great mix of traders and techniques. The beauty of this book is that these are people who REALLY trade for a living instead of vendors of trading materials or philosophies from writers or teachers. This book is large with glossy paper and full color charts for all trades displaying different indicators. There is not room here to go into all that I learned from this book so I will leave you with some of Dr. Elder's key principles:

1. Do not put more than 2% of your total capital at risk on any one trade.

2. Do not have more than 6% of your total capital at risk at any one time.

3. Keep your charts simple, two moving averages, an envelope, MACD lines and histogram with the Force index is enough.

4. Keep very good records for every trade along with its charts.

5. Develop your own method that you are comfortable with that gives you an edge in the markets.

6. You must do your homework to succeed, trading is a profession like any other, there is no easy money here.

7. You must love trading to be successful at it.

8. You need the support of your spouse to be successful.

9. Start trading a small size and build up your tolerance to risk.

10. Make a commitment of time, and stick to it.

Case studies

I recommend this book not for the trading methods you will find it in (because I don't recommend using these methods at face value to trade), but in order to see how different people trade, and in particular the contrast between amateurs and experts. There are several amateurs, they tend to use a lot of technical methods and over rationalize their entries and exits. The professionals may not have better methods, but they are less fooled by the accuracy of the method. If this book is a good sampling of the trading population, then it would seem most traders, or at least beginners, fail to appreciate the unpredictability of the price action of markets. When they make a losing trade, rather than simply recognizing the probability of entering into losing trades at any given time, they rationalize it by saying they didn't "follow their method" or some such. Likewise, when completing a winning trade, they tend to give credit to their method, rather than recognizing that it was probably pure chance. As someone who trades by scalping, I was rather intrigued by the account of the gentlemen who developed a simple formula to trade against the public from the dealing desk. I'm curious about the success rate of this strategy. Alas it does not seem to be available. On a final note, Alexander Elder is a good writer, honest, clear and descriptive. In this book and others, he does a good job of describing technical analysis and other methods. My word of caution, especially to beginners, would be that there is a high failure rate of any method, including those described in this book. You must recognize that as the simple and unchanging truth and develop a strategy that deals with it.

About the Author
Elaine Fletcher-Janzen, Ph.D., teaches at the University of Northern Colorado and consults to area school districts. She also serves as a trainer for American Guidance Systems, a publisher of clinical assessment instruments for school psychologists. She is the coeditor of the Handbook of School Neuropsychology (with Cecil Reynolds and Rik D'Amato).

Cecil Reynolds, Ph.D., is Professor of Educational Psychology and Professor of Neuroscience at Texas A&M University. He is the author or editor of numerous books, including the Handbook of School Psychology (with Terry Gutkin, Wiley), and several Essentials books (Essentials of Behavioral Assessment, with Randy Kamphaus and Michael Ramsay, and Essentials of Assessment with Brief Intelligence Tests, with Liz Lichtenberger). He has also developed a number of psychological assessment instruments, including the RIAS (published by PAR) and the BASC (published by AGS).

Both authors have collaborated on several previous projects, including the Encyclopedia of Special Education, Second Edition, the Concise Encyclopedia of Special Education, Second Edition, and the Childhood Disorders Diagnostic Desk Reference.

Contents are good, typos are terrible.

I have an advanced degree from physics, and found that the contents in this book are well balanced between mathematics and physical models. The author definitely knows how to cut short at various points where very advanced math is needed. Instead, the author smartly explained only some fast results or theorems. This makes them very easy to go through, and lets readers focus on the models instead of rigorous math. The MATLAB codes are helpful as well. Problems are well designed too.

Downsides: Typos are terrible. In a few pages, typos make it impossible to read. Also, at several points, the author used very confusing symbols, such as he used "j" for the maturity time of option (pg 108). Also, in some sections, the logic of writing was very vigorous, i.e., you will read some results without knowing what they are here for, but you will see that they are used at the end of the section. Then you have to come back to the beginning and go through the whole section quickly to organize the content in a correct order in your head.

In conclusion, I will NOT recommend this book if you have other choices.

Throughout, Seaward intersperses brief meditation and journaling exercises. Yet the book feels hollow. While Seaward touches on some profound Taoist principles—as one might expect, given the book's title—he fails to investigate these teachings in any depth. Instead, he uses them as a broad, a priori template for an "ageless wisdom" held by generic "wisdom keepers." He then cites examples of this wisdom from a wide range of other sources and traditions, including Native American spirituality, Joseph Campbell's writings, and DNA research. A Treasure Trove of Wisdom Awaits You

If you are like me, you have spent many years exploring the vast array of self-help, spiritual, and psychological "fix-it" books available. Although I definitely gleaned lots of interesting information from my countless readings, I somehow had not yet been able to fully understand the innermost workings of my own mind/heart/spirit. I had begun a journey of my own, many times over, but just kept going in circles because I couldn't find the best way to begin. Which school of thought to study in? I had begun to see similarities and overlapping messages, but I still couldn't pull everthing together and make sense of it.

I owe tremendous gratitude to Brian Luke Seaward for helping me to see farther inside myself than I'd ever been able (or dared) to before. I was first introduced to his work in late 2002. Since that time I have learned valuable lessons that have helped me to cope with extraordinarily stressful situations, deal more effectively with the unknowns in life, and to, ultimately, be more than ever someone who can still retain some sense of peace, joy and hope even living in this world as it now sits in the midst of tremendous turmoil. Mr. Seaward has graciously gathered so much priceless information here and made it understandable in theory, yet completely applicable to one's own life. "Quiet Mind, Fearless Heart"

In many ways, it takes a great deal of courage and conviction to

stand up in today's society, and an unfailing commitment to one's

personal beliefs. When the markets are geared for more, and instant gratification everywhere one turns...we stress and get overloaded. A very deep and personal connection to nature and the natural environment, is in my mind, essential to staying grounded and acknowledging the truth for what it really is.

Now, more than ever before, it seems that humans are on the very threshold of change, positive change we pray for, we hunger for it, we desperately need it to nourish our souls.

Reason for hope

It was in the early '90's that I was experiencing emotional burnout equivalent to an extended 'dark night of the soul'. It was then that I first began reading this author's work while in search of tools to bring light back into my days. Reading Dr. Seaward's books, and even hearing him speak at our Unity Church, I learned even more! I felt I had 'past the course' and could, in some ways teach it myself. Then this year I got 'sent back' a few years when problems with major surgery left me in great pain and some what homebound. Then I discovered his new book, 'Quiet Mind, Fearless Heart.' With it, I was able to take a deep breath and begin to explore hope again. I found exercises in this book that stretched and strengthen the 'muscles' of my soul. Am I 'all well'? Not yet! Have I found a path back? Most certainly! His first book, 'Stand Like Mountain' was my textbook on life that I've treasured for many years. Now, just when I most needed it, as I go though major 'winds of change' his sequel, Quiet Mind has come to give me 'winds of grace.' With humble gratitude, I encourage everyone to give themselves this reason for hope, 'A Quiet Mind, Fearless Heart.'

The real you, a most amazing brand!

I highly recommend May I Have Your Attention, Please! for anyone willing to explore themselves for their most successful marketing plan ever.

Whether you are interested in sprucing up your personal image or that of an organization, Chris Hilicki has a refreshing approach to brand identification and enhancement. Chris challenges you to examine yourself and identify who you are and to then capitalize on that uniqueness. She encourages you to bring your life guiding experiences, principles and values to light, for them to compliment and color your brand. She champions the concept of being yourself, first and foremost. You don't need to emulate or become like anyone else, because the genuine, unique you is the real brand that cannot fail. Chris brings a sense of dignity back to brand building by honoring authenticity, integrity, honesty and truth. You can build a unique and memorable brand by first just being yourself, not a copy.

Much more than a business book!

I picked up the book looking for ideas on how to promote our business and my book. I came away with ideas for improving my life. Who ever guessed a business book could be so fascinating and gripping? I learned how to utilize my personal experiences to become proud of who I am, and to learn to use this to help others. Very valuable information for an author! After all that, I remembered why I bought the book in the first place and realized it really did show me how to brand my book and our business. A perfect book for those of us who must learn business and don't really enjoy the process--this book is educational, entertaining, and motivational all at the same time.
